Honey moisture content, a decisive factor!

Dehydration of honey is very important for its quality.
Bees, using their own method, measure the moisture content and, when it is acceptable, seal their honey for winter with wax.
Only sealed honey is suitable for harvesting.
Unsealed honey means high moisture content (over 20%) and carries the risk of spoilage and souring.

The beekeeper removes the surface wax coating (decaping) before placing the frames for centrifugation in the honey extractor.

The wax from exfoliation is used to make personal care products such as wax ointments, lip balms with beeswax, balms for heels and elbows, homemade soaps with wax, etc.
