Organic honey

Organic honey!

Many people ask, why organic? How is it different from conventional?
Is it a ploy to get a higher price?
But what are the requirements for honey to be classified as organic?
If you want my opinion, beekeeping is organic in itself.
Beyond that, it is human intervention that makes the difference.
For this reason, organic beekeeping is determined by the following factors:

Location:

The hives should be located away from urban centers, industrial areas, and intensive farming (spraying), and there should be a source of running water.

Handling:

Feed only when there is a risk of starvation, and only with certified organic products.

Treatments:

No chemicals.
No use of antibiotics or other drugs to treat diseases for preventive or even therapeutic purposes.
The result is lower production but higher quality.

Production-Packaging:

In areas with approved hygiene conditions. (stainless steel tanks, tiles on floors and walls for easy disinfection, hot water supply, etc.)
Annual shipment of honey samples for testing for pesticides and chemicals in honey.

All of the above is checked annually by a European Union agency (with photographs and analyses) in order to award the "green leaf" label that characterises certified organic products in the European Union.
